Perbedaan mencolok antara Lumia 920 dan Lumia 820 adalah di teknologi kameranya. Jika Lumia 920 menggunakan kamera PureView, Nokia di Lumia 820 menyematkan Carl Zeiss 8 megapiksel, dual LED flash, dan full HD 1080p video capture 30 fps. Juga ada kamera VGA untuk bagian depan.

Selain itu Nokia 820 ini desain yang tak lagi mengusung unibody. Kita bisa mengganti bodi belakang dengan berbagai variasi, entah itu untuk merubah desainnya atau sekedar merubah warna. Tutup belakang terlihat mengkilap dan ringan saat dipegang, imbasnya bodi jadi terasa tak premium. Disamping bodi terdapat tombol shortcut untuk membuka kamera, tombol volume, dan power.
